My Passion
My passion is to help others. It began when I was a toddler. My father was a pastor, and I loved to go with my daddy every week to make calls on church members who couldn’t attend services because of their age or confinement in a nursing home.
But I must confess, I had an ulterior motive. As a youngster of four or five, I would tell my mother, “When I grow up, I’m going to be a minister. Then I can help Daddy, and he’ll have more time to play with me.”
When I was older, Dad was a hospital chaplain. I’d still accompany him on his visits whenever I could.
My father taught me the importance of living by the Golden Rule and stressed that it’s more blessed to give than to receive. And that has remained a cornerstone of my work.
I served in ministry for over 30 years until I retired in 2004. Then, restless to be of service to those beyond the walls of any church, I discovered I had a unique ability to explain financial concepts to others—particularly concepts about protecting those people who are dearest to us.
Eventually, I found opportunities to share the strategies my advisor, Donna, had taught me many years before.
